Kissimmee and Orlando are among the top family vacation destinations in the world — and for good reason. With Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, beautiful weather, and endless activities, there is something for everyone. Here are 10 tips to help you plan the perfect family trip.
1. Visit During Off-Peak Seasons
The most expensive and crowded times to visit Orlando are summer (June-August), spring break, Thanksgiving week, and Christmas through New Year. For shorter lines and lower prices, consider visiting in January, early February, late September, or early November. You will get the same great weather without the peak-season prices.
2. Stay in a Vacation Home Instead of a Hotel
A vacation home like 450 Burma gives you more space, a private pool, a full kitchen, and room for everyone at a fraction of the per-person cost of a hotel. For families or groups, the savings can be hundreds of dollars over a week-long stay.
3. Buy Park Tickets in Advance
Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld all offer discounts when you buy tickets online in advance. Multi-day passes are significantly cheaper per day than single-day tickets. Plan your park days ahead of time and buy tickets as early as possible.
4. Cook Breakfast and Pack Lunches
Dining at the parks is expensive — $15-25 per person for a quick-service meal. Save hundreds by making breakfast at your vacation rental and packing sandwiches and snacks. Publix and Walmart are both within 5 minutes of 450 Burma.
5. Build in Rest Days
You do not have to go to a theme park every day. Plan at least one or two rest days to recharge. With a private pool, game room, and playground at your vacation home, the kids will not even miss the parks.
6. Use Rope Drop Strategy
Arrive at the parks right when they open (rope drop) to ride the most popular attractions with minimal waits. You can often knock out 3-4 major rides in the first 90 minutes. Then take a break during the hot midday hours and return in the evening.
7. Rent a Car
While rideshare works, a rental car gives you flexibility to visit grocery stores, restaurants, and attractions on your own schedule. 450 Burma offers free parking for multiple vehicles and even a Tesla EV charger if you rent an electric vehicle.
8. Do Not Skip the Water Parks
Island H2O Live! is just 5 minutes from 450 Burma and offers a full day of fun. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Universal’s Volcano Bay are also excellent options and often less crowded than the main parks.
9. Explore Beyond the Theme Parks
Kissimmee and Orlando have so much more than theme parks. Check out Disney Springs for free shopping and dining, Celebration Town Center for a charming walkable downtown, or Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures for a Florida wildlife experience.
10. Book Your Accommodation Direct
If you find a vacation home you love on Airbnb or VRBO, check if the owner has a direct booking website. You can often save 10-15% by booking direct and avoiding platform service fees. At 450 Burma, you can book direct and put those savings toward your vacation.
